Baker Pushing His Cart -- sugar mold

Origin: Dutch

Age: late 19th or early 20th century

Size: 12 5/8" x 8 1/4"

Note: This is half of a two-part sugar mold that would have been used by a Dutch baker to form suikker or sugar. What makes this mold unusual is that it is a self-portrait of sorts, as the design is of a baker pushing his cart. The cart reads "bakker" which is Dutch for baker. Bakers in the Netherlands would take their goods to streets in order to deliver or simply sell door to door. Bakers also did this in the United States.
