Hen Laying Eggs into Men's Pants
Origin: probably German
Age: mid to late 19th century
Size: 9" x 5 1/2"
Note: This is the only mold that I have ever seen with these unusual designs. While the design of the two pugilists squaring off is self-explanatory, the design of the hen roosting above men's pants is a bit subtle. Apparently the carver had a sense of humor, as he positoned an egg-laying hen above a pair of men's pants. Surely this somewhat humorous view of fertility was not an accident on the carver's part. Maybe the cookie made in this design was eaten by women hoping to become pregnant?
